 Sound Design Build is a licensed architectural and building contracting firm based in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Founded by Erin Powell, the firm is uniquely positioned at the intersection of design and construction. After more than 10 years as a licensed architect, Erin made the deliberate decision to also pursue her building contractor’s license—allowing her to guide projects seamlessly from concept through completion.

Erin began her architectural career at large corporate firms in New York City and Boston before relocating with her family to the Outer Banks, where she established Sound Design Build. The firm’s work includes ground-up commercial projects such as an office building and veterinary clinic, residential interiors, additions, and new construction, as well as shipping-container resource centers in Haiti and a church fellowship hall in Kitty Hawk.

Founded while Erin was a first-time mother, Sound Design Build reflects a balance of professional ambition, hands-on construction experience, and a deep appreciation for life on the Outer Banks. Embracing new challenges and expanding her credentials made owning and operating the firm possible. Erin is grateful for the opportunities, partnerships, and community that continue to shape Sound Design Build.
